Many skateboarding brands are founded by skate icons, either because of the need for proper gear or to fulfill their creative passion for the sport. For the founder and owner of Doom Sayers Club, 'fueling the fire to create something positive from a variety of negative life experiences' was the primary motive for the brand's founding.
In the later part of 2011, legendary skateboarder Omar Salazar realised that it was time to build his own brand. It was the time when 'end of the world' news were crazy that even local AM radio stations have dedicated channels for them. He heard a guy saying something about 'doom sayers' and how they try to stop other people from doing what they want. Omar found himself nodding in agreement as he drove through the night going to Sacramento from L.A.
The brand did not specify an official artist on board, though Omar admits he's not a great artist, he can produce decent artwork and designs for their products. He collaborates with his friends Uncle Bob and Vinny to come up with the designs and to complete the process.
In 2012, Doom Sayers became a full-fledged brand which produces cool skateboard decks and apparel. In 2014, the brand was introduced online and it was also when their video collages and clips became available for viewing. Those who love shredding street should see videos such as Everybody's Clown and A Month Living Free. These videos showcase riders such as Sean Gutierrez, Robbie Russo, Brad Cromer, Jason Jessee, Ronnie Sandoval, Dylan Bunnell, Stefan Janoski, Jon Sciano, Dane Bradly, Sean Blueitt, Rye Beres, Chris Russell, and Raven Tershy.
Back in the day when skateboarding was looked down and riders were equated as trouble-makers, Omar had his share of negative rhetoric from members of his family and school teachers. His mentality was all about doing things that they reprimand him to do.
The snake in the brand's logo represents all of the negativity around him and dealing with them on a regular basis. That's how the founder expresses what he's been through as a skater since he met numerous people and shook hands with them, but not all of them seemed to have faith in him. And the more he felt that way, the greater was his desire to create something for skateboarding.
Such ethos applies to Doom Sayers' zest for creating products and their support to worthy skateboarders with positive attitude and passion for their sport.
Doom Sayers Club have collaborated with the following:
• Independent Trucks - True to their skateboarding tradition, the brand collaborated with Independent to bring everything from skate trucks to complete skateboards, to bandanas and accessories. The range was a perfect mishmash of minimalistic graphics that stayed true to Doom Sayers' design aesthetics.
• Knowledge Clothing - This collaboration with Knowledge Clothing was the perfect answer to the fashion essentials that every skater would appreciate. They have created a range of clothing such as a classic gilet, a mid-weight garage jacket, and a retro trucker cap.
Some folks may look at Doom Sayers as a rebellious brand, but their story and positivity are what truly makes them remarkable to both groms and experienced pros.
